Charter the Forge — Pitch Narrative

CEO deck = “what is.” ¹ This arc = the infrastructure “what’s next”: not a program for students, but the shared technology capability the whole apprenticeship-degree movement lacks. The door for this audience is infrastructure — funders who’d rather build what every institution uses than fund one more pilot.

Beat 1 — The hook

A degree where day-to-day work is the curriculum needs software few incumbents ever built: work-and-learning integration, employer visibility, chunked assessment for people whose learning windows are shift breaks and commutes — all accreditation-legible. ² Legacy LMS, SIS, and online-program platforms cover a slice at beat. None cover the whole. The Forge builds what’s missing.

Beat 2 — Who builds software just changed (the shift slide)

“Vibe coding moved prototyping from the engineering backlog to the domain expert’s creativity.”

Until roughly 2025, a domain insight became software only by hiring an engineering team. The people who actually know what the apprenticeship stack needs — apprenticeship practitioners, industry-skills experts, adult educators — can now build the first version of the thing they understand. And the expert-built version wins on five counts:

• More accurate product definition. The product is specified by someone who lives the problem — not a requirements doc translated twice before it reaches a developer.
• Closer understanding of the use case. The constraints that sink generic builds — accreditation legibility, shift schedules, a supervisor’s real day — are known up front, not discovered in month six.
• Faster to the end-user’s hands. The builder already works beside the users; a prototype lands in a real cohort in days, not after a procurement cycle.
• Richer stakeholder feedback. Apprentices, supervisors, and registrars give candid, specific feedback to a trusted colleague — and the revision loop is same-week, not next-contract.
• Authentic motivation. Not an engineer doing their job — a visionary realizing a vision. The builder has waited years for this tool to exist; that energy survives the tenth iteration.

Beat 3 — Why NCAD is the only right home (simple slide)

“One network, one lab — so no member rebuilds what another already proved.”

NCAD — the National Center for the Apprenticeship Degree, launched by Reach — already runs partnership development and employer engagement across a member network, ^{7 8 9} anchoring the 3-million-completions-by-2035 moonshot. ^{10 1} Many institutions are hitting the same stack gaps independently; a neutral center pools the prototypes so the network compounds instead of duplicating. ⚠ VERIFY current member count.

Beat 4 — What the Forge builds first (the concrete slide)

• Work ↔ credit mapping — day-to-day work rendered accreditation-legible (time-based RA’s ~144 hrs/yr related instruction and competency-based pathways both ¹¹).
• Employer visibility — a supervisor dashboard to see and nudge apprentice progress.
• Chunked delivery + assessment — sized for shifts, not semesters.
• Evidence capture for accreditation — messy work artifacts → auditable documentation.

The wedge: voice-first evidence capture. Teachers and nurses — Reach’s populations — have no time to sit and write; their learning windows are commutes and between-moments. Speech-to-text turns a spoken post-lesson reflection into accreditation-ready evidence; text-to-speech turns the commute into learning time. Only recently good enough, and a genuine differentiator against text-first incumbents.

Beat 5 — The funding wave wants shared infrastructure (OVERWHELM: the moment)

Beat 6 — What your gift charters (the ask)

“Charter the lab: domain experts prototype, engineers harden, the movement keeps the IP.”

It starts with an Agentic Engineering setup desk and coach — the Forge’s front door. A member institution’s domain expert arrives with a workflow problem; the desk stands them up on the right agentic tooling (environments, accounts, guardrails), and the coach walks them from first prompt to working prototype. Around that front door, the standing capability: domain-expert builders across the member network, part-time hardening engineering, tool budget, and governance that keeps outputs shared-good. ¹ Prototype → test with real cohorts and employers inside member programs → circulate across the network → harden the winners. Grant-funded, philanthropic framing throughout — this is shared infrastructure for a movement the funding wave has already validated, not a commercial bet.
